they’re currently on and to get to the next one they think they need to spend all this money and get this useless degree but here’s the thing about promotions you can get as many degrees as you want you can work as many hours as you want you can do whatever you think you need to do for the company that will let you move up but that is not up to you it’s up to your boss his boss it’s up to the person at the top it’s not up to you to control whether you climb the ladder or not they might tell you yeah you need to go back to school get that degree or .
then we’ll promote you and then they and then they don’t do it i’m sure many many people that watch these videos have experienced yes um well if you stick around we’ll promote you and then that just never happens or if you go back to get this we’ll promote you and then that never happens promotions are not up to you climbing your way up to the ladder is not up to you it is up to the people already at the top of the ladder he says.
i wanted to move up from being a manager to an executive well getting an organizational leadership degree does not make you an executive i chose the organizational leadership program over a master’s in business for one primary reason and that was because the master’s in business was probably too hard let’s just be let’s be honest so you hear a lot about leadership but you don’t hear a lot about servant leadership and what does that really mean but the crux of the definition was to understand .
if you’re a true servant leader is are the people who you are serving and leading better tomorrow than they were today this man paid thousands of dollars to learn that key concept we just saved everyone that watched this video a bunch of money you’re welcome these are just people who don’t have any skills who think that getting a degree will make them a boss and a good boss at that but they don’t actually do the quantitative stuff you know the the numbers the profit margins they just do the stuff that .

i’m curious why did you decide to study organizational leadership sure i wasn’t exactly positive with what i wanted to do in terms of career more schooling in that you know that kind of realm um so as i was kind of looking around for options uh this program was suggested to me by one of my professors um and i hope that i was undergrad here so i knew the uh you know the the nature of the university itself um and .
so as i kind of dug into the researching um what exactly the the topic of organizational leadership i started to find like man this is something that’s it’s not just applicable in one area but something that’s it’s universally needed um i think no matter what we look at any kind of business any kind of marketplace um there’s always going to be a need for good people i think this is one yeah well you if there’s always going to be a need for good people right but this degree does not suddenly make you good people leadership is just something that’s uh you know you can’t you can’t go about it right right.
we hope the organizational leadership program is a bachelor’s degree program that consists oh we’re down to bachelor’s now most of these are masters now bachelors absolutely makes no sense nobody’s going to hire you straight out of college to come be a boss that come on just think about it of 10 courses it’s designed for adult students attending seattle university who wish to obtain their bachelor’s degree for anyone.
who wants to take courses in understanding organizations understanding a little bit about leadership but really for those people who want to gain the kinds of skills that are needed in the workplace today isn’t that what college is for in general like for every degree like why is this degree specific to people who really want to learn what’s needed in the workplace that should be all the degrees right in today’s rapidly changing globalized and technologically advanced workplace .
oh my god the buzzwords dude leadership is required throughout an organization people who can make ethical decisions think on their feet and just work with others so that organizations can achieve their mission vision and goals so it tells you absolutely nothing about what they do like getting a degree in that doesn’t let you do that regarding the career outcomes of our students we expect that a student graduating from the organizational leadership program will be able to get a job as a manager or get promoted to a managerial position in the near future after graduation.
we have research data showing that seven of the top 20 most in demand let’s pause this and look at that first line supervisors of retail workers that’s what they’re using as their quality control metrics here to say we have research that shows you will become a manager yeah the top one is retail manager that’s right you’re getting a bachelor’s degree to be a retail manager and there’s nothing wrong with that what’s wrong with it is the amount of money you pay to do that because you don’t need you don’t need this degree to be a retail manager having that bachelor’s degree can make an enormous difference in your life.
so people between the ages of like 22 and 35-ish who have a bachelor’s degree make about 18 000 a year more this is not a very good metric let’s just be honest six percent job growth in 10 years it’s not that’s not looking good median income for leadership occupations yeah leadership occupations not organizational leadership degree occupations obviously .
if you’re an executive or higher up in the company you’re going to be making more money but this doesn’t come on this doesn’t translate like that you’re just using leadership here that word and then leadership here that word i wanted to grow as far as my education .,
i wanted to develop myself and learn some great leadership skills it all goes back to the mission of the program facilitate the transformation of technical professionals into technical leaders what a bunch of jargon it’s like kit bogus worldwide web wide association of tech professionals it’s not just learning things that are hypothetical i see it happening every day and so it makes me that much more emotional oh wow okay .
so let’s see what we’re learning on the background on the powerpoint number one comprehend what’s happening number two analyze why is it happening number three synthesize integrate the why and the what number four employ put it to work people are paying money to read this garbage and they probably paid for these books they’re spending money on gas to get to this classroom like this is kindergarten olympic college decided to offer the bachelor of applied science in organizational leadership and technical management because .
it met a couple of very important needs i feel developing this program was definitely oh my god dude like the first thing that comes to mind is just the phrase okay boomer the right decision and the evidence for that was uh saying that the class was full this year we even had a waiting list oh wow a waiting list for this degree i don’t know why it’s because people want to get a degree and they want to do something that’s easy because a lot of people’s parents say you got to get that degree or you’re not going to get a job and so nobody knows what they want to do and you end up with full classes and waiting lists of people that are going to get a useless degree and don’t no program is definitely meeting local needs.
i attribute that to the hard work of the administration in our business technology division and the outstanding faculty our students are working professionals keeping that in mind we chose a hybrid delivery format for the program students attend one to two nights a week and the rest of their work is completed online it’s a strong blend of on-campus and face-to-face instruction with the flexibility .
so what do we got what do we got on the board 365 days 24 hours yes those that’s how you measure time very good empowerment trust turnover is that absenteeism i assume that safety culture morale a person who desires to be a leader needs certain abilities they need technical skill human skill and conceptual skill just people in general need those skills not leaders it doesn’t matter how loud you make the motivational music in the background it’s not gonna make your degree useful .

we’re not just talking about leading ethically but people are leading by example you know you can be a great leader but if you don’t have that ethical position then you’re not really a leader the master of arts and ethical leadership is a 36 credit hour program so it’s 36 credit hours and the cost per credit hour at this university is 580 dollars mba m a m a e l.
s right ethical leadership so that is 580 dollars per credit hour let’s open up the old calculator uh it’s 20 000 i want 21 000 to learn how to be a good person i guess you got to love how they break the prices down to the credit hour to make it seem like it’s more reasonable but like you serious and that’s not including the other things like room and board transportation personal fees i guess regular regular fees on top of your tuition fees like that doesn’t seem very ethical of this college let’s let’s let’s look at some jobs let’s see ethically leaders there a job for ethical leader staff accountant sales representative radio technologist performance coach team lead payment solutions 10 to 15 an hour .
that’s this is probably honestly where you’d end up uh under the team lead of payment solutions manage 15 payment solutions specialists for 15 well you know you’re not going to get the upper end you’ll probably get 12 dollars and 50 cents an hour two years in a leadership or elevated role supporting loss mitigation so i like i feel like if you were in a leadership role you’re making 1250 an hour like come on three years work experiencing customer facing operations for 12.50 cents an hour .
yeah this is here this is what you’re going to school for right here uh actually in and out in and out pays more money than this team lead payment solution does it make burgers also uh 13.50 an hour i hear that they have really good work do you remember when making burgers used to be a meme like i’ll just go flip burgers for a living it’s paying more than what jobs you do actually for a living pay that’s all .
