university we want to regularly renew our curriculum so that the courses that we offer to students at depauw are continually relevant to what students .
tell us they are interested in and to what employers tell us that they need depah has always had a strong college of libraries and sciences at our core in this new academic renewal model that college is going to remain central to everything.
we do at the university we prepare students who are capable of free thinking versatile thinking students who can approach complex problems from multiple perspectives multiple areas of expertise .
we re trying to use those strengths as a springboard to take a liberal arts approach to education to new disciplinary areas specifically business and leadership and areas that focus on creativity and innovation the creative school is in my mind another step .
we re now joining together with not just music it s visual arts film technology theater uh creative writing and all of these genres can just enhance the word creativity the world around us is changing depauw like any other school needs to continue to evolve that s.
why i am so excited about the school of business and leadership combined with a liberal arts education very few schools in the entire world can do those two things well at one time depauw has been doing it well for a long time now we re formalizing it we want to make sure that students that come to depauw have the best experience not only inside of the classroom.
but also outside of the classroom the ideal student experience at depauw would be one where students feel a sense of home a sense of belonging i call it the depauw sparkle and i think it just changes everything right at the center of it all is community right um and and it s evident all over campus there s .
sort of a magical feeling about it students invested in each other they re invested in faculty and staff the really close mentoring relationships between faculty and students depaul has given me two things leadership opportunities and a lot of confidence i have been involved in so much and i ve been a leader in a lot of spaces .
i ve learned how to become a better person a better friend a better student a better athlete i ve grown so much in these four years we are committed to having a diverse student body a diverse faculty a diverse staff and we want to make sure that all members of our community are able to take full advantage of all of the wonderful resources that depauw has to offer diversity liquid inclusions impacts every aspect of the experience every office and every staff and faculty member and student is really thinking through the lenses of what di looks like.
i think we re looking at it through all aspects of the institution versus through one lens we want to be a thriving institution a vibrant institution an institution that attracts the very best students staff and faculty you know one of the things.
i really appreciate about dr wyatt as we embark on this next chapter at the university is that she s been able to bring along different constituencies to develop a new view of what liberal arts in the st century ought to be and that involves the faculty.
it involves current students it involves alumni of course the board of directors and the administration our strategic plan will provide an even greater foundation for our ability to graduate leaders that the world needs you
